The usual suspects
Furnaces almost always quit on the coldest night β that's when they're working hardest. Here's what we run into most around the valley:
- A cracked or dirty flame sensor. Furnace lights, then shuts off a few seconds later. Common and quick.
- A failed igniter. No flame at all. Another inexpensive part we usually carry on the truck.
- A bad blower motor. You feel heat at the unit but barely anything from the vents.
- A tripped safety / bad limit switch. The furnace is protecting itself for a reason β we find out why before resetting it.
We take the safety part seriously
Gas furnaces and carbon monoxide go hand in hand, so every repair includes a quick safety check β heat exchanger, venting, and CO readings. If something's off, we'll tell you straight. If you ever smell gas or your CO detector goes off, leave the house and call your utility first, then us. It's worth having a working CO detector on every floor.
